TV Service Department - St Austell Branch. MY RESPONSE TO THE OWNERS COMMENTS HAVE BEEN ADDED. 1. The picture on my TV gave up the ghost but as it is only 4 years old and otherwise in good condition I thought it might be worth repairing. HBHW take a £46.00 upfront fee which includes the first hour of engineers time. The repair quote came back at double what the TV originally cost and clearly wasn’t a cost effective option. In view of this, HBHW offered me £20.00 off the price of a new TV. Thinking about this....... An hour of engineers time (£23.00 an hour according to their website) is included in my upfront fee of £46.00 and even if, in the unlikely event, it took an engineer an hour to determine what needed doing, that still leaves £23.00 remaining from my upfront fee. Therefore, £20.00 off the price of a new TV is anything but a “discount”. The consequence of not having my TV repaired by them, or indulging their imaginary discount and purchasing a new TV from them is: I have paid HBHW a whopping (see below) £46.00 for an inspection/repair quote! I am not suggesting another TV engineer would have concluded differently or quoted less, but having had a quick phone round to satisfy my own curiosity; £15 - 20 would seem to be the going rate for a TV inspection/repair quote. 2. In response to the owners comments below: I genuinely apologise if I misunderstood your service rates. However, in this instance (my review based on my dealings with HBHW), the fact remains I have paid £46.00 for an inspection/repair quote which is VERY EXPENSIVE (x2+ to x3+ more) compared to others locally. I'd also like to stress those I contacted are qualified engineers. I have no idea if any are "service agents" for leading manufacturers nor did I feel the need to ask! A person either has the necessary credentials to undertake such work or they do not - They did and £15 - 20 was the price range for a TV inspection/repair quote. It is also worth mentioning that if my TV had been worth repairing, those I contacted, and without exception, waive the cost of the inspection if they are given the repair work. Which ever way you may choose, or would prefer to view this.... I have paid through the nose at HBHW for an identical service I could have purchased for a fraction of the cost elsewhere.
